HypnoBirthing Testimonials
| My hypnobirthing experience was almost too good to be true. My husband and I are not what you would call trusting of anything "natural", and have tended to rely heavily on pain medications in the past. With the most recent birth of our son, Max, however, we relied on Hypnobirthing and Patricia M. Poole to bring us to an informed, relaxed, and relatively pain free birth. When I think back 14 years to the days of my first two children's births with a previous marriage and how I did using the traditional Lamaze training, I shudder from the memory. Being that I was much younger and in much better shape physically, it seems to me that I should have had a much easier time with the first two children. The reality of those births, however, was that I was so uncontrollable and crazy with pain that I actually ripped IVs out of my arms in fits of rage and pain. They both seemed to last forever, and I actually had my tubes immediately tied afterwards, swearing that I'd never go through that sort of misery again in life. I know Lamaze works for many people but it wasn’t quite what I needed. Fourteen years later with my maternal timeclock ticking, my husband and I decided to go through things once again. The fear of an upcoming labor was almost unbearable for me, with memories from so long ago overtaking many of my thoughts. As I began taking Hypnobirthing training, I knew that I had it in me to do things differently the third time around. Although we didn't practice nearly as much as we were instructed, I had a confidence in myself that is difficult to put into words and it is due to the Hypnobirthing program. Trish gave us taped hypnosis sessions to practice with, and I was able to bring them to the hospital with me in case I needed them. I did so much worrying before the day actually came that I was almost in awe the day Maximus was born. I was in awe because I was so relaxed, so prepared, so aware of everything around me. I wasn't scared, I wasn't unreasonable, I wasn't crazy in pain. When it finally came to a point where I thought I might lose control, it was too late. He was born within one push minutes later. I cannot recommend Hypnobirthing enough. Had I known that birthing could be so easy, perhaps I would've had more children earlier in my life. To this day, I continue to use the tools that I learned with Hypnobirthing in my every day life. When I'm frustrated, in pain, or even angry, I try to remember the self hypnosis sessions that made me feel so relaxed, calm and in control when I was at that very dramatic time of my life. The hypnosis has become a part of me, which I thank Trish for under my breath, every day that I live. | Gina |
| Before discovering the Hypnobirthing technique my feelings regarding child birth were anxiety, nervousness, and even fear. Traditional childbirth education classes that I took centered mainly around what to expect physically during labor, focusing briefly on breathing techniques and the importance of relaxation. My husband and I then attended four hypnobirthing sessions with Trish. We worked on visualization, deep hypnotic relaxation, and deep breathing techniques. We were given materials and discussed the theories behind hypnobirthing, primarily that our bodies are made to birth our babies and it is important to let our bodies do what they are made to do. The most important part of the theory for me was the focus on breaking the fear-tension-pain cycle. It was also great that my husband was able to learn these techniques in order to help me relax during labor. My daughter was born on August 17th, 2004. We arrived at the hospital with no worries and were very relaxed. Using techniques learned in our Hypnobirthing sessions, both Trish and my husband were able to help me relax to the point where I was able to calmly breathe through very strong contractions and literally ignore any pain that accompanied them. Light touch massage helped to release endorphins and visualization helped me to relax. The most amazing part of this experience was that during very relaxed, hypnotic states, time seemed to fly by. What seemed like minutes was actually hours! I am proud to say that during a very long 20 hour labor my baby was born the way I wanted without the need for an epidural and minimal pain medications. I also believe these techniques helped my baby have a less stressful delivery. I know that if I hadn't gone through the hypnobirthing classes this probably would not have been the case. This was a truly great experience and I would strongly encourage other couples or mothers to be to explore hypnobirthing as a way to have a more relaxing, natural, pain free child birth.
