REIKI - ANCIENT AND REVIVED
Reiki is becoming more and more familiar as people learn about it from friends, news programs and natural health magazines.
Reiki continually surprises me. Although applied in an organized and consistent fashion. It so uniquely interacts with each individual person and situation, seeking always to create harmony on all levels. This, of course, is perfect since each of us is unique with our own way of healing our mind, body and spirit.
Some utilize Reiki to support them as they heal physically. They receive Reiki sessions to bolster their vital force and strengthen their immune system and recover more quickly. Many also utilize Reiki to reduce pain, both chronic and acute.
Many utilize Reiki to reduce stress (which has been indicated to be a major precursor to disease states) and to become centered and balanced. In so doing many find clarity of purpose and direction. Some have had great success applying Reiki to overcome depression, hopelessness, anxiety, etc. Allowing their energy body to heal their states of emotional imbalance.
Still others find that Reiki takes them to a deep meditative state quickly and effortlessly where they are able to recharge their mind, body and spirit creating a wonderful sense of well-being.
Reiki, in simplest terms, clears out that heavy and chaotic energy from the mind-body-spirit and brings a brighter sense of overall well-being.
What is REIKI?
Reiki is a Japanese system that has been utilized in the US since the 1930s, brought over by Hawayo Takata. Reiki essentially means universal vital life force. The specific system of Reiki makes it possible for a Reiki practitioner to become like a straw for the universal energy to flow through his/her energy system to the person who is receiving the Reiki. As the energy flows through the practitioners hands s/he follows hand positions corresponding to the endocrine gland system, generally not touching or just touching the person lightly. Reiki is not visible to most people, although it can be captured on Kirlian photography which makes visible the electromagnetic energy in and around living things.
Just like certain atomic structures have an affinity and follow that affinity to reach an electrical balance, so Reiki flows and seeks its affinity to create balance and harmony in an individuals energy field. To understand exactly how Reiki works one needs to understand more about the human energy field, how the body and energy bodies interact, neurotransmitters and peptides. An understanding of the chakra system and endocrine system is very helpful as well. I wont be going into those topics and systems in this website so If you would like more information or have specific questions about these topics please email me and I will respond as quickly as possible.
What happens during a Reiki session?
Of course it varies from practitioner to practitioner. At my office, the first visit we take some personal health history, describe Reiki and answer all questions. Then we discuss objectives and expectations so that we are assured that client and practitioner are both working toward the same goals.
Then the client removes shoes, jewelry and any other uncomfortable clothing (extra jackets, ties, belts, etc.) and lies on a massage table fully clothed. Once the client is comfortable, I begin placing my hands a few inches above the body and/or sometimes touching lightly. The light touch is to let the client know where I am so s/he can close his/her eyes and relax completely.
As the energy flows through, the client usually begins to feel one or more sensations of relaxation, such as warmth, tingling, a letting go of tension, body pressure changing, a sense of an electrical flow through the body. Some sense very little but may relax so much that they fall asleep. During the session I am mostly silent so that the person may relax deeply and go within.
A session lasts about an hour. At the end of the session I discuss any findings, answer questions and may make suggestions about other natural health care.
Reiki is not meant to replace medical diagnosis and/or treatment. It is imperative that if you suspect you have a medical condition you seek appropriate medical attention. Reiki is an excellent complement and support to any treatment; reducing stress before and/or after a surgical procedure to bring the person into homeostasis or balance- where healing is done.
